Join the park interpreter and special guest Russ Hopping on a walk to view and identify various butterfly species at Maudslay. Russ is an active member of the Massachusetts Butterfly Club and enjoys sharing his knowledge of butterflies with others. Russ is the Ecology Program Director for The Trustees of Reservations. He has worked for The Trustees since 1997, overseeing the stewardship of ecological resources at The Trustees’ more than 26,000 acres.

Manchester Bike and Pedestrian Committee together with Manchester-Essex Rotary Club are sponsoring a bike safety rodeo! Kids ages 5-14 are encouraged to bring their bikes for a bike and helmet safety check. This event will focus on safety tips and training, with an obstacle course and bike handling skills instruction. Snacks will be provided. Sign up via email, or on the day of the event!
Berlin-based contemporary artist Alicja Kwade (b.1979, Poland) has long been engaged with value systems, philosophical questions about the essence of reality, and with attempting to examine, if not resolve, issues of inherently subjective concepts such as space and time. In her sculptures, as well as installations, photographs, and films, Kwade occupies herself with the structural properties of everyday objects and questioning the veracity of matter, revealing possibilities for alternate realities, while examining social agreements and supposed truths.
May the 4th is commonly known as Star Wars Day. This year, Newburyport Youth Services is excited to announce that we will be holding our 2nd Annual Star Wars party from 6:00-8:30pm. Come to Appleton Farms for this very special workshop with chef Carolyn Grieco as we explore the wonderful world of ancient grains and how to incorporate them in your daily cooking. Locally grown and milled grains are popping up everywhere and their culinary popularity continues to grow. We’ll explore many different varieties of grains along with their flavor & texture profiles, nutritional benefits, and how to handle them in the kitchen. We’ll prepare unique recipes incorporating some of these grains, and enjoy a wonderful dinner at the end of the evening. Class includes hands-on cooking with professional chef instruction and printed recipes. BYBO beer & wine allowed.
