Befriend the Barnyard

Befriend the Barnyard is a hands-on barnyard experience at the Trustees of Reservations' Appleton Farms in Ipswich Massachusetts

Come discover our special barnyard animals! Our Angora rabbits Violet and Vanilla, Nubian goats Merlin, Maeve, Morgana, and Mordred, and our friendly flock of heritage chickens will take center stage as we learn about what makes them so unique. Befriend the Barnyard is a hands-on barnyard experience that lets you and your family approach our barnyard buddies under the guidance of a professional farm-based educator. Join us for a new activity every half hour. Activities might include:

  • Petting the Angora rabbits and carding wool
  • Collecting eggs from the chicken coop
  • Brushing the goats in their pasture

As part of Befriend the Barnyard, you can make and take home a different farm-themed craft every weekend.

This program is best suited for families with young children. Be sure to wear sneakers or other closed-toe shoes when you join us in the barnyard!

Please note: You must purchase a ticket to participate in this event intended to engage children and families.

Registration is required. This program runs on Saturdays from January through March from 11am-1pm. Please select a time slot when you register – 11AM-11:30AM, 11:30AM-12PM, 12PM-12:30PM, 12:30PM-1PM.
