Revolutionary War Militia Muster!

Come by the Newburyport Custom House to see Captain John Wood’s Company, Colonel Gerrish’s 25th Regiment of the Massachusetts Grand Army on our back green!

The Custom House is celebrating Essex National Heritage Area’sTrails & Sails on Saturday,  with a Revolutionary War Militia Muster on the back green. This reenactment event will highlight Newburyport’s role in the American Revolution. Visit our back lawn to see Captain John Wood’s Company, Colonel Gerrish’s 25th Regiment of the Massachusetts Grand Army. The group will interpret a unit that was raised in Newbury, Massachusetts in 1775, as well as Virginia riflemen who stopped in Newburyport on their way to Arnold’s Expedition to Canada.

Come to CAM Green in Gloucester Massachusetts for a showing of the classic film 'Captains Courageous'

Join us at the Cape Ann Museum Green for a free screening of the classic Gloucester film, Captains Courageous on Saturday, August 28 in partnership with the Cape Ann Community Cinema. Captains Courageous is a legendary 1937 film about a Portuguese fisherman who rescues the son of a railway tycoon after the boy fell overboard from an ocean liner. Based on Rudyard Kipling’s 1897 novel, the movie was filmed primarily in Gloucester. Photographs from the Museum’s Library & Archives document the filming.

Come and explore Ward Reservation with The Trustees and McVAGLY (Merrimack Valley Alliance of GLBT Youth) on this evening hike. Ward Reservation boasts 12 miles of trails and the highest point in Essex County where we’ll catch the sunset upon the conclusion of our hike. Among the highlights of the walk will be the quaking bog, scenic vistas and historic apple orchards.
