Historic Ice House Tours - Fridays

Tour Cape Pond Ice and chill wioth the coolest guys in town!

Chill with the coolest guys in town! Enjoy a cool visit to Cape Pond Ice Company, icing Gloucester's fleet since 1848. We were featured in Sebastian Junger's account of The Perfect Storm. Tours highlight the history of the ice industry, with vintage film of natural ice harvests. See first hand 300-pound block ice being made (up to 350 tons per day), fishing vessels taking on ice and ice sculptures being carved in our historic icehouse on Gloucester's working waterfront.

Mayor's Cup Schooner Race

The Mayor's Cup Race at the Gloucester Schooner Festival is just part of the fun

Note: Due to the weather, these events have been postponed to Labor Day Monday. The Mayor's Race is a major part of the Gloucester Schooner Festival 2024, where participating schooners in the weekend activities compete for for the Esperanto Cup, Ned Cameron Trophy and Betty Ramsey Trophy off Eastern Point and East Gloucester.

New England Cradle of Aviation, Plum Island Airport Open House

W. Starling Burgess developed his piloting skills out of Plum Island Aerodrome

Come for guided tours of the Burgess Aviation Museum! Tours feature photographs, artifacts, and a diorama celebrating the 1910 flying field at Plum Island in Newbury – New England’s first – and the current Plum Island Airport. From April to August 1910, Marblehead yacht builder W. Starling Burgess conducted a series of increasingly successful test flights on biplanes he designed and built.

Sail Boston transit Boston to Gloucester

Sail with the tall ships from Boston to Gloucester aboard the Schooner Ardelle!

Schooner Ardelle invites you on a unique adventure on the coast of the North Shore!  Board the Ardelle as we depart the Sail Boston festival and sail back to Gloucester in company of the fleet of Tall Ships participating in the Tall Ships Challenge/Redez-vous Tall Ships Regatta race from Massachusetts to Canada. We will return to Gloucester in the afternoon, prior to the race start. Tickets are also available to join the Ardelle to watch the start of the tall ships regatta that afternoon! Passengers are responsible for arranging their own transportation to Boston and out of Gloucester. Trunnel tickets and Vouchers are not valid for this unique sailing experience.

Revolutionary War Encampment: Escape from Boston

Escape from Boston Revolutionary War Reenactment - Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm - The Acton Minutemen - His Majesty's 10th Regiment of Foot in America

The Escape from Boston Revolutionary War Reenactment is a weekend encampment and battle scenario that plays out this “what-if” scenario that might have changed the course of the American Revolution. Meet Revolutionary War soldiers from both sides of the conflict. Members of the Continental Line and His Majesty's First Regiment of Foot Guards re-enact a retreat from Boston with cannon, cavalry, and drills throughout the day. Come watch the colonial forces battle with the British Redcoats at the Escape from Boston Revolutionary War Reenactment to determine our destiny as a nation.

Strings in the Parlor

Celebrate hearth and home on a candlelit tour of this colonial salt water farm in Ipswich Massachusetts

This Open House is offered in conjunction with Ipswich is First...Period, a community celebration of 17th century architecture, and an homage to hearth, home and the celebration of Thanksgiving.
