The Little House: Her Story features the work of beloved children's book author & illustrator and founder of the Folly Cove Designers Virginia Lee Burton (1909-1968). In addition to Burton's drawings, book illustrations and prints, an artfully-created scale model of her "Little House," which was fabricated in Japan for an exhibition held at the Gallery A4 in Tokyo last year, will also be on display in the gallery.
This exhibition is the first to explore the role of empresses in shaping China’s last dynasty- the Qing dynasty - from 1644 to 1912. Nearly 200 spectacular objects from the Palace Museum tell the little-known stories of how imperial women influenced court politics, art and religion. Timed to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of U.S.-China diplomatic relations, Empresses of China's Forbidden City is organized by the Peabody Essex Museum; the Smithsonian's Freer|Sackler, Washington, D.C.; and the Palace Museum, Beijing.
The Highland Street Foundation invites Massachusetts residents and tourists to visit designated cultural attractions every Friday this summer with free admission. 10 Fridays through to August 31 during which admission will be waived at 100 different museums and attractions across the state.
