Rail Trail Bike Ride
Join ECTA Trail Steward and Topsfield Rail Trail Committee Chairman Joe Geller as he leads us on a bike tour of the Topsfield Linear Common Rail Trail through Topsfield, Wenham, Danvers and Peabody. We will begin at the Town Hall parking lot in Topsfield at 9 a.m. and ride to Lowell Street in Peabody. We'll stop for a short break at Karl's Sausage Kitchen off Lowell Street in Peabody for rest rooms for about 20 minutes before returning to Topsfield. This is a great chance to discover a fantastic and safe multi-use path you never knew was there!!
Family Cemetery Scavenger Hunt
Spend time learning at the cemetery by doing a family friendly scavenger hunt. Grab the Scavenger Hunt Clues and directions at the Wenham Museum's front desk, or download materials from the Wenham Museum's website. Return your completed form and be entered in the raffle to win passes to the Museum! This event is FREE as part of Trails & Sails
Harvest Fest at Green Meadows Farm
You do not have access to view this node celebrates the harvest season with their FREE annual Harvest Fest! Enjoy live music by Dixie Cookbooks, arts and crafts for kids, farm fresh food (for purchase), an obstacle course, lawn games, face painting, and wagon rides. The walking paths are open for you to walk about the property and enjoy the fields and animals.
Maritime Archaeology and Heritage on the Wharf
Join the Salem Maritime National Historic Site and Dr. Calvin Mires, Co-Founder and Instructor of Seafaring Education and Maritime Archaeological Heritage Program (SEAMAHP) in bringing maritime heritage to life through hands-on activities. Although we won't actually be practicing archaeology, visitors young and old will have the opportunity to use the tools and methods of archaeological research, survey and documentation.
Children's Civil War Muster
Brought back by popular demand! As part of the 14th Annual Civil War Weekend, the Lawrence Civil War Memorial Guard's Children's Muster is open to kids of all ages. Join the 6th Mass Militia, 5th Mass Battery & 6th Maine Battery to learn what life was like in the Civil War army. Sample Hardtack Crackers, learn about camp life, drill, payday and participate in a skirmish, then visit the sutler tent. Looking for seasoned and raw recruits!
Family Terrarium Workshop at PEM
Get your hands dirty while learning about plants and mini habitats in this terrarium workshop. A member of the Niche Urban Garden Supply team will be on hand to guide you through the process as you design a one-of-a-kind terrarium to take home. Come early or stay late to enjoy the exhibition Sizing it Up: Scale in Nature and Art, where you can also check out Vaughn Bell’s mega-terrarium -- Metropolis before the exhibition closes on September 19th.
