We know how important it is to be "green," but how do we apply that to the way we live on the New England coast? Come to Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats for a full day of activities all about ocean creatures like whales, sea turtles and fish! We’ll learn about ocean sustainability and seashore conservation with fun, informative games like mini sporting events, quiz competitions, model building, and art projects for all ages!
Scheduled Activities at a Glance:
- 11am family presentation: Going on a Whale Watch! with Lisa Hutchings (designed for ages 2-10)
- 12pm narrated hermit crab story with puppet by Victor Atkins
- 1pm family presentation: Sharks and Sea Turtles with Lisa Hutchings (designed for ages 2-10)

Note: Children are encouraged to bring their favorite “ocean/beach” stuffed toy for a little UNDER THE SEA PARADE after the 11am and 1pm presentations!
Come to Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats for a full day of activities all about OCEAN AND COASTAL CREATURES, such as sharks, whales, sea turtles and fish. LEARN ABOUT sonar, ocean partnerships, and mapping the ocean floor, and put together a solar boat model all while increasing your awareness of the ocean, finding out ways to make smart consumer choices, and showing your love of the sea and all its inhabitants.
For ages 2-7: We have a building wide scavenger hunt and many take-home ocean crafts including hanging jellies and coral reefs to go as well as creative play in our special CORAL REEF ROOM with coral reef props, ocean books, coloring pages, and stuffed animals such as whales, sharks, and fish to enjoy.
For ages 7 through 10: There is all the above PLUS lots of tabletop displays in our OCEAN STEM LAB (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), you can test your skill at cartography, geography, matching ocean partners, and visiting our marine mammal touch table!
Please Note: This is a rain-or-shine event. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
