Highland Street Foundation Free Fun Fridays

Free family events all summer north of Boston, Northshore, Cape Ann

The Highland Street Foundation invites Massachusetts residents and tourists to visit designated cultural attractions every Friday this summer with free admission. 10 Fridays through to August 31 during which admission will be waived at 100 different museums and attractions across the state. You don't need to register or obtain a ticket. Just show up and enjoy!

Ipswich Museum hosts a morning of fun and historic games at the Whipple House each Wednesday in July and August! There’s no need to make a reservation or stay the whole time - just drop in. We’ll have a variety of historic games to play, including rolling hoops, graces, fox & geese, and more! This is a free, all-ages program, but donations are appreciated.

Salem Heritage Days offer a wonderful way for Salem residents and visitors to connect with Salem’s history, art, and cultural scene. House of Seven Gables invites families to learn about sailing the high seas with a variety of family-friendly and hands-on activities. The Family Navigation Game is offered daily from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. The Living History Labs hands-on history experience will take place daily from 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Empresses of China’s Forbidden City makes U.S. debut at Peabody Essex Museum

The Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) debuts Empresses of China’s Forbidden City, the first major international exhibition to explore the role of empresses in China’s last dynasty––the Qing dynasty, from 1644 to 1912. Nearly 200 spectacular works, including imperial portraits, jewelry, garments, Buddhist sculptures, and decorative art objects from the Palace Museum, Beijing (known as the Forbidden City), tell the little-known stories of how these empresses engaged with and influenced court politics, art and religion.

Space: An Out-of-Gravity Experience, the Museumof Science newest temporary exhibition, takes you as close to space as you can get without leaving Earth! This hands-on, climb-aboard cosmic adventure of science fun and learning invites explorers of all ages to understand the rewards and challenges of working in such a harsh environment—from operating a robotic arm to managing a limited power supply to discovering why working in a space glove is so difficult.
