Get a jump start on your weekend with the Second Friday Program at the MIT Museum! Second Friday Programs are oriented for open exploration with opportunities to attend performances, demonstrations, and lectures through out the museum galleries. September's 2013's Second Friday will focus on the "Mending Boston" memorial collage quilt - a collaborative project that is intended to encourage communication about the Boston Marathon Bombings and to open channels of healing.
Come on down to the Essex Shipbuilding Museum for Salty Dog Day - a fun celebration of the long history of dogs in the maritime trades! This family event is a wonderful opportunity to wander around the Museum and have fun with your family and pets! Our fascination with castles and the people who lived in them is so strong that even here in the "New World" lots of people have built replicas of medieval masterpieces. Come to Castle Wenham in the Family Discovery Gallery this summer to learn about Lords and Ladies, knights and maidens, and all the hardworking peasants who made up the busy community of a medieval castle.
Wenham Museum is proud to host “Pajamas of My Dreams” an evening of fun with Pajama Storytime & Pajama Drive to benefit Cradles to Crayons.
"Pajamas of My Dreams” is a beautifully illustrated book that combines the hopefulness and high aspirations of children with a mission of providing warm pajamas for all.
After a reading by the author, Laurie Collins, children will enjoy a color and collage Dream activity with the book’s author and illustrator, Margie Florini.
Guests are invited to bring a new pair of pajamas to donate to Cradles to Crayons; an organization that distributes clothing and school supplies to local children.
All ages welcome.

Children of all ages will enjoy this small display of original watercolor illustrations created by children’s author and illustrator Mary Newall DePalma for her latest book, Bow-Wow Wiggle-Waggle.
This fun and engaging exhibit explores the world of pop-up books through an amazing array of pop-ups on display as well as hands-on opportunities for you to make your own pop-ups, be a character in a giant interactive pop-up book, and an exploration of the history and mechanics of pop-up creations.
Come get hands-on experience planting seeds and seedlings to grow this summer. Also, learn about the value of composting for our planet! This workshop is free but pre-registration is required for materials planning.
The MIT Museum shows an exhibit of the art and science of holography with The Jeweled Net: Views of Contemporary Holography. The exhibition created in conjunction with the 9th International Symposium on Display Holography, co-sponsored by the MIT Museum and the MIT Media Lab. Over 20 holograms created by international artists, as well as several from the MIT Museum collections, will be on display, and will remain open to the public through September 28, 2013.
