Join us for the official kickoff of the Theater in the Open 40th Anniversary Season! Edward Speck and Joshua Shack know that we need a spring panto to celebrate the change in seasons at Maudslay State Park. This year, they’ll collaborate to create another completely original panto based on a beloved story, Peter Pan. Pirates, fairies and Lost Boys will abound in this whimsically goofy take on the J. M. Barrie classic.
A modern day Mr. Rogers with hipster appeal, Joshua Holden and his puppet sidekick, Mr. Nicholas, are bringing their award-winning family production “The Joshua Show” to The Cabot! When Mr. Nichols makes an unnerving self-discovery that causes him to spiral down a path of loneliness and hopeless despair, it’s up to Joshua and his cast of characters, including Larry the Lint and the Wonderbook, to show his best friend the joy in being yourself. With live music, tap dancing, physical comedy and multiple styles of puppetry, this whimsical show is sure to bring out everyone’s joyful side.

We’ve updated our version of this classic fairy tale, added a holiday spin, plenty of adorable mice and even a few playful clowns to lead audiences on an enchanted adventure. It’s everything that you loved the first time you saw Cinderella, with some new surprises, just for fun!
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, it’s time one again for our Spring Pantomime! This time around we’ll be following the (mis)adventures of Jack and friends as they take the path much less traveled by, and learn some valuable lessons along the way…!!! Edward Speck and Josh Shack have planned another silly, playful Spring Panto that's full of surprises. Follow the Theater in the Open flags from the Maudslay parking lot. Allow ten minutes to stroll to the site and $5 for parking ($6 for out of state vehicles).
The second annual Theater in the Open Festival returns to Maudslay State Park on August 18th and 19th! Join us for a weekend filled with our entire summer season! Bring a picnic lunch and come on down to see every show we are performing this summer-all in two days! All shows are free and open to the public.

Sawyer Free Library hosts Poetry and Puppies at the outdoor ampitheater! This program for kids ages 6 and up encourages learning poetry while giving children a chance to ineteract with puppies looking for a home! In partnership with the Cape Ann Animal Aid.
With February vacation coming to a close, families looking for an enriching activity to get them out of the house are invited to the Cape Ann Museum’s Activity Center to try their hand at instrument making using recycled items, followed by an intimate musical experience with Kathleen and Jeremy Adams. The midday mini-concert & instrument demonstration portion of the program will be performed on the Adams harpsichord and chamber organ in the special exhibition, Voicing the Woods: Jeremy Adams, Instrument Maker, on view at the Cape Ann Museum from October 22, 2016 through February 26, 2017. Families are invited to join in with their newly fashioned musical creations.

The arts and objects on display in the galleries will provide the inspiration for scenes and characters for interactive improvisational games throughout the Museum. Discover the art, history and culture of Cape Ann and have a good laugh with the talented and witty Cape Ann Improv performers.
