Join us for an immersive installation in celebration of Salem Heritage Days! Following three special PEM Pals collaborations, Salem’s Public Artist in Residence Claudia Paraschiv continues to explore how children can contribute to culture. “The Tree of Care+Wonder: Through a Child’s Lens” imagines how a future city might take care of and bring wonder to its residents.
Catch us at PEM’s main entrance for an afternoon of performances and art making around the tree.
- 11:00 am | Make chalk art with a local artist around the tree and try fruit-themed tabletop art making with Claudia Paraschiv.
- 11:30 am | The Rosalita’s Puppets troupe brings the tree to life with whimsical forest creatures.
- 1:00 pm | Local artist and designer Linda Mullen reads a story about the origins of maple syrup. Greg Glenn and four more local poets read poems on childhood, including original works written for Salem Heritage Days.
- 2:00 pm | The Bold Citizen theater troupe performs “Neighborhood Narratives: Stories of Wonder” directed by Salem State University professor Michael Jaros, with student actors Hannah Cunniff, Nadia Okuliczki and Shifty Celestin.
