Celebrate local author, illustrator and artist Virginia Lee Burton with story time, playing and art making in the Children's Activity Center. Burton authored and illustrated some of the most memorable books ever written for children, and won the 1942 Caldecott Medal for [amazon 0395181569 inline].
She went on to author many children's books with wonderful illustrations depicting the adventures of her well developed characters, all with happy endings. Later in life Virginia Lee Burton went on to become a recognized artist and founder of the world-reknown Folly Cove Designers. She lived in Folly Cove (part of Lanesville) with her husband and two sons.
