Fireworks & Harbor Illumination in Marblehead

Marblehead Fireworks as seen from Chandler Hovey Park by Jeff Folger

Due to a fire on the fireworks barge, the 2024 fireworks display and harbor illumination in  Marbelehead Harbor has been canceled as a preecaution! bargeIndependence Day in Marblehead is a full-day affair along the picturesque harbor front. Start the day at 10 am with the Horribles Parade, a whimsical procession of unique and often creatively opinionated homemade floats, accompanied by lively music and other festive elements. As the day progresses, the waterfront and downtown come alive with music, food, and  family-friendly activities. The day culminates with the Harbor Illumination and Fireworks.

At 9PM, the Harbor Illumination begins, igniting a series of flares all around the harbor's perimeter. This luminous spectacle creates a magnificent ring of radiant light, setting a unique ambiance for the main event. At precisely 9:15PM, the fireworks propel skyward from a barge stationed at the mouth of Marblehead Harbor. This strategic location ensures optimal viewing opportunities for the public, whether seated in their own comfortable lawn chairs or nestled on picnic blankets at Chandler Hovey Park, Crocker Park , or Fort Sewell. Additionally, boaters and members of the five yacht clubs scattered around the harbor, as well as residents of various private homes along the harbor and Marblehead Neck, can also view the display from their vantage points.

This community celebration promises a day filled with merriment and concludes with a dazzling showcase of light and color, leaving indelible memories for all who partake in the festivities.

The fireworks serve as the finale of the annual Marblehead Festival of the Arts (MFoA). Spanning the entire weekend, from July 1st to July 4th, this festival takes place at various venues throughout Marblehead, Massachusetts. MFoA hosts a variety of engaging activities for families, including multiple art exhibits, a 5k race, waterfront concerts, a street festival, a children's festival, a kite festival, and family-friendly competitions that include a model boat regatta.
