Hay Rides at Appleton Farms

Explore Appleton Farms on a hay ride tour! Undoubtedly the best way to experience our 350+ year old farm and all of its spectacular grounds and animals. Rides will take place every twenty minutes during our Pizza Picnics, Fridays from 4pm to 6pm, Saturdays and Sundays 12-4.

Families are invited to get acquainted with some of the creatures that will help us welcome springtime at Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team. Rick Roth of the Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team will introduce animals from our local area that you may have never seen up close. After the presentation, there will be an optional walk to an easily accessible vernal pond in our own Powder House Hill Reservation which will soon come alive with the sounds of spring!

February Vacation Week: Afternoon Birding for Families

Kids will learn about birding at Joppa Flats Education Center in Newburyport during February vacation!

Come to Joppa Flats Education Center for an afternoon full of family fun! Adults and children can spend quality family time in the great outdoors finding, observing, and admiring local wildlife. Can you imagine seeing a Bald Eagle or a Snowy Owl on a winter walk? Families will travel in their cars to several birding hot spots on the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge with Joppa Flats naturalists in the lead. Once there, we'll walk on cleared trails to search for the birds that are here for the winter. Then, we'll wrap up with hot chocolate back at Joppa Flats.

North American Birds of Prey at IRWS

Wingmasters present live North American Birds of Prey at Mass Audubon's Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary

Come see live birds of prey up close in this presentation that will introduce you to the different types of raptors including eagles, hawks, falcons, and owls. We'll discuss the special features these birds have that enable them to be successful predators at the top of the food chain.  Note: this programs fills up quickly so register soon!

Wild About Turtles

What do turtles eat? Where do turtles live? Do turtles have teeth? Answer these questions and more at our exciting program with Mary of Project Nature! Mary will share stories, songs, and fun facts about these beautiful creatures. You may even have the chance to meet a turtle or two. Registration: Registration is required for this program and space is limited. Call or visit the Children’s Room to sign up. Wingmasters at Sawyer Free Library

Wingmasters demonstrate live birds of prey of various specious in Massachusetts

Join the specialists of Wingmasters for a live birds of prey demonstration at Sawyer Free library during the Middle Street Walk 2024!  Birds of prey are also known as raptors, and they are hunting birds characterized by hooked beaks and powerful grabbing feet armed with sharp talons (the word raptor comes from a Latin word that means "to seize"). Raptors can also boast the best eyesight and the sharpest hearing in the animal kingdom. Raptors include hawks, falcons and owls. This program is for ages 6 & up. This live presentation introduces 5 live birds of prey, all native to New England! All audience members must be seated in chairs, maximum capacity is 70 people.  For more info, contact Christy Rosso.

Come see the Appleton Farms milking cow herd in Ipswich Massachusetts!

Join us Every Sunday at 4PM to see our Jersey heard being milked. See the cows bring brought in from pasture, get a look at the milking up close and ask our dairy farmer a few questions! Perfect for kids and adults alike. While you are here take a peek in the cheese kitchen viewing room, visit with our other barnyard animals or have a picnic in the stone paddock!
