Presented by the Salem Maritime National Historic Site,explore the FRIENDSHIP OF SALEM, a replica tall ship based on a 1796 Salem vessel. Learn about the voyages of the original FRIENDSHIP and the lives of the crewmembers onboard. The two-decked, three-masted, square-rigged, 342-ton vessel represents New England’s influential role in the development of global and domestic maritime trade.
Set sail on a full-scale replica of the famous 1812 privateer schooner FAME. FAME is a replica of a privateer schooner that sailed from Salem during the War of 1812! We sail up to five times a day between May and October from Pickering Wharf in Salem.

Join Historic Beverly for a walking tour of Fish Flake Hill Historic District! The historic structures of the oldest area of the city, Fish Flake Hill, are the sites of the town’s revolutionary and early maritime industries, and home to many of Beverly’s merchants and sea captains. This area was also the town’s primary business district into the mid-19th century.
The Merrimack Valley Ship Model club will exhibit a wide range and variety of ship models displaying tiny miniatures, and modest rowing craft in contrast with ocean going vessels. MVSMC members will be at the exhibit demonstrating modeling techniques and sharing back ground stories about the models on display.
War of 1812 Day at Salem Maritime National Historic Site! Salem Maritime will be celebrating the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 with living history programming throughout the day. Meet some of Salem's 19th century citizens, and hear their views on this controversial war. Family activities and Junior Ranger programs will be offered all day.
Come to the Salem Maritime National Historic Visitor Center to imagine what life was like at sea as you rummage through the sea bags of a ship’s boy, a sailor, and a captain. Try writing your name using signal flags used to send messages at sea. Then, make a Sailor Valentine out of sea shells like the ones sailors would create for their loved ones back home.
Experience life on and around an authentic Viking ship. Vikings are known for their “raiding and trading” but they were also master crafters in wood, metal and fabric arts. Based around our flagship Polaris, visitors will get to see, feel, and hear the sounds of costume, metal working, and wood working. They will get to experience what it was like aboard a small Viking longship and even try their hand at rowing.
Join Historic Beverly on a journey through Beverly to visit the homes and businesses of some of Beverly's most famous privateers, including the legendary Hugh Hill! We will also experience some beautiful waterfront views as our guides explain how these sites would have looked and been used. Hundreds of models ships of all types will be on display in downtown Peabody! There will be all types, made from wood, plastic paper and miscellaneous media and created by hobbyists and professionals from the Greater Boston area. Many of these models are incredibly detailed works of art worthy of museum display. Come see these wonderful pieces and meet the people who make them! You'll learn about their skills and hear some great stories, and its a great time for all visitors. Please use the side entrance to the building.
