When his conniving aunts send him to chop down their old fruit tree, James discovers a magic potion that brings him a giant peach and some giant insects with equally oversized personalities. When the peach rolls into the ocean with James and his insect friends aboard, they face hunger, sharks, mean aunts, and plenty of disagreements as they float across the Atlantic Ocean to New York City. Will James’ quick wit and creative thinking make this dangerous voyage a success?

The Oberufer “Shepherds Play,” a Nativity play, is once again offered by faculty of the Waldorf School at Moraine Farm. It shows twice on Thursday, Dec. 17: at 4:30 and 7:00 p.m.  The play focuses on three shepherds who hear of the birth of Jesus and travel to bring him gifts.

The Navy Band Northeast will be the final concert of the Yankee Homecoming

Yankee Homecoming is proud to present Navy Band Northeast, who performs a wide variety of musical styles including traditional band literature, popular standards and patriotic favorites.  Whether performing for an outdoor summer concert series or a holiday concert in December, the band provides musical entertainment for audiences of all ages. Navy Band Northeast ensembles perform over 300 engagements annually, personifying the quality and professionalism of today’s Navy and instilling pride and patriotism during each and every performance.  One of Navy Band Northeast’s primary responsibilities involves touring their 11 state area of responsivities allowing the band to reach out to audiences in areas that do not have opportunities to see the Navy’s musical ensembles on a regular basis.  The concerts are family-friendly events meant to be entertaining to veterans, families, individuals and those interested in joining the Navy

Waterfront Concert: Chris Plante

Chris Plante plays the Waterfront Concert Series at the Newburyport Yankee Festival!

Chris Plante is a Newburyport native who spent his early career as lead singer and writer of popular nationally touring act, The Brew. Career highlights have included having a hit in the Top 100 AAA Radio Charts with his song “When Darkness Comes” and sharing the stage with The Allman Brothers, Michael McDonald, Bruce Hornsby, The Black Keys and many others. Since stepping away from The Brew in 2013, Chris continues to grow musically, developing a body of up-tempo and groove-oriented songs that extend his indie pop sensibilities into fresh lyrical and melodic terrain. Today he leads a six-piece band featuring Kelly Kane, The Brew’s original drummer, co-producer Alex Sandman, Trumpeter Steve Faria and top-level talent from Berklee College of Music including multi-instrumentalist Daniel Alvarez De Toledo and British guitarist Elliott Marchent. Chris Plante is an officially endorsed Yamaha Contemporary Pianist. He is currently in the studio working towards the release of a new full-length album.
