Joppa Flats Education Center has added this event by popular demand! Come to Joppa Flats Education Center and begin with a 45 minute indoor introductory program in the Lookout (2nd floor) about Pinnipeds (seals, sea lions, and walrus). Then, we’ll carpool to an on-the-beach viewing area where we can see the harbor seals hauled out on the rocks at low tide at the mouth of the Merrimack River.
We’ll bring spotting scopes, field guides and we encourage you to bring binoculars, scopes if you have them and your digital cameras for some great opportunities to digiscope the seals in the wild.
We’ve got sketching and journaling activities planned and even a few games or two to enjoy on the beach! We’ll bring along our tracking tools and measuring tapes since there are should be animal tracks in the sand as well.
