There are few places on the North Shore that more reliably enjoy spectacular views than the back side of Crane Beach, overlooking Essex Bay. On this riverboat outing into the heart of the Essex River basin, we will be setting sail in the protected waters of the Crane Wildlife Refuge, one of the most scenic sections of the Great Marsh—the largest contiguous salt marsh in New England.
After setting sail and learning about the area’s rich history and ecological background, we will dock on Choate Island for a guided hike to explore the landscape. Along the way, we’ll observe the wide variety of wildlife found in the marsh and on Choate Island, including egrets, herons, and other shore-birds. You can count on making an amazing connection with nature and creating enduring memories in one of New England’s most beautiful places.
