"Lilac Sunday" at the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University

Lilac Sunday, May 9, 2010 - 10:00am to 4:00pm

Take part in a beloved Boston tradition! Of the thousands of flowering plants in the Arnold Arboretum, only one, the lilac, is singled out each year for a daylong celebration. Tours of the estimated 400 lilac plants, dance performances, picnicking (allowed on this special day only), and family activities will make this a very special family day.

Designed for children from birth to age eight and their accompanying grownups, the Discovery Center offers an assortment of fun, hands-on activities that are designed to encourage discovery through play. An ideal area for early learners, this educational environment emphasizes the use of real objects and has an extensive teaching collection for exploring natural history, physical science, and technology topics.

Chess Instruction at Abbot Library

Kids can play clocked chess matches against each other each Wednesday at the Abbot Public Library in Marblehead Massachusetts
Students in grades 2-6 are invited to weekly evening chess instruction by high school student Flynn MacCallum at levels from beginner through advanced players on Mondays in the Children’s Room. The Children’s Room will provide chess boards and pieces. This program is supported by the Oliver P....
