Google Science Fair 2012

Kids are invited to enter the 2012 Google Science Fair - the worlds largest!

Everybody has a question.  What's yours?  That's the best place to start for an entry into the Google Science Fair - the worlds largest online science competition! Using the Scientific Method, kids 13-18 are encouraged to share their vision and and their discoveries with the world through an entry into the 2012 Fair.

Kids register their project with Google, and a Google Site is automatically created to document the project.  Entrants don't need to know any coding for site production, they just have to fill in the blanks!  Entries must be accompanied by a two minute YouTube video or 20 slide Google Presentation as a project overview. All Entries must be completed by April 1, 2012 for judging.

Judging is by a panel of teachers and university professors, with two preliminary rounds of elimination narrowing the field to 90 at first, then down to 15.  The 15 finalists will be flown to the Google Campus in California to take part in Google's celebratory Science Fair, and for final judging before a panel of acclaimed scientists and tech visionaries.  Three winners will be selected by age range - 13-14, 15-16, 17-18, with the Grand prize winner chosen from one of those three.

Prizes include a National Geographic Sponsored trip to the Galapagos Island, unique scholarships and real-life work opportunities in well funded, well known science campuses like CERN in Switzerland. All finalists who make it into the first preliminary round will recieve a Google Chromebook.  There are tons of reasons to enter, but for those who do end up in the top tier, the prizes are pretty outstanding!

So envourage your children to put on their thinking cap and start asking questions. The path they'll find themselves on will not only lead to discoveries about the world around them, but also about themselves! Who knows, it may even change the path of their lives!

The Google Science Fairis sponsored by Google, LEGO, National Geographic, Cern, & Scientific American
