The Phillips Academy Department of Music will present the Academy Chorus, Fidelio Society, and Chamber Orchestra in concert under the direction of Dr. Abbey H. Siegfried. Entitled “The Road Less Traveled,” this concert offers an assortment of American and Portuguese songs.
Included is a selection from Frostiana by Randall Thompson, with lyrics from poems by Robert Frost. Heavenly Home: Three American Songs, a set of songs arranged by Shawn Kirchner will be performed. There will be Shaker songs like Lay Me Low, spirituals like Motherless Child, and African American songs that helped lead the slaves to freedom on the Underground Railroad like Follow the Drinking Gourd. The chorus will also perform Celebrai, a song of celebration by Brazilian composer Will Lopes.
This concert, which is free and open to the public, will take place in Cochran Chapel on the Phillips Academy Campus.
