SCDS: Importance of Early Years

Three of Shore's Lower School teachers and Innovation Lab director, Cam McNall will present on the impact of offering strong educational experiences to children at the earliest opportunity. Listen to our passionate teachers explain how a solid foundation in the early years leads to future educational success.

• Kindergarten teacher, Keisha Myrie, will discuss the development of early literacy skills, a foundation in phonics techniques balanced by the broader approach of whole language.
• First Grade teacher, Mary Kinahan, will delve into the importance of classroom environments that invite exploration, discovery, curiosity, and making learning meaningful.
• Grade Four teacher, Sean Melia, will present on generating wonderful relationships with teachers as the route to creating positive attitudes about learning for life.
• Innovation Lab director, Cam McNall, will cap off our morning by discussing how creative and open-ended work children do with their hands excites a depth of learning and experience with both success and failure.

Shore’s new Center for Creativity is designed to inspire our students' imaginations and expand their ability to meet challenges with innovative thought. It provides an environment where teachers and students are free to blend the arts with science, math, social studies, and reading.
