Ould Towne Heritage Fair

Proceeds from the Ould Towne Heritage Fair go to 'Save the Lower Green'

The goal of The Ould Towne Heritage Fair is to show a glimpse of how our ancestors may have lived, and inspire visitors to assist in the support to raise the urgently needed funds.  All proceeds from the Ould Towne Heritage Fair will be directed to the purchase price to acquire Newman Farm Meadow. 

  • Exhibitors will display local art and craftware including pottery, jewelry, candle and even Cribbage Boards made from wood recycled from the USS New Hampshire!
  • Hayrides on Saturday!
  • Demonstrations throughout the day will highlighting some of the skills one required to get by 300 years ago like black smithing, rope making and basketmaking.
  • Stories about the 1st Landing of the Parker River, Newbury birds, 17th Century Education, Vocabulary of the day, Bee Keeping, Candle Making and Paper making are part of the Schoolhouse Lecture Series.
  • The Highlight of the fair will be the opening of the Dole-Little House by Historic New England on Saturday Afternoon from 1-3.

The Ould Town Heritage Fair is hosted by 'Save the Lower Green'. In Conjunction with Essex County Greenbelt Association, the 'Save the Lower Green' group has taken on the initiative to raise the funds needed to permanently conserve Newman Farm Meadow, the irreplaceable scenic backdrop to the historic Newbury Lower Green. If Save the Lower Green is successful in its fundraising campaign, the property will be acquired by Essex County Greenbelt Association and managed as part of its reservation system.  Preservation Massachusetts listed the Lower Green as one its Top 10 most endangered historic resources in 2010. Newman Farm Meadow's location is near the historic landing site of the first settler’s of 1635.
