Junior Ranger Day is part of National Park Week and is geared toward engaging kids to learn history, teach them stewardship and have fun while exploring their nearby National Parks. On the North Shore, families can visit Salem Maritime National Historic Site or Salem Sound Coastwatch for free fun activities throughout the day!

Junior Ranger activity booklets are available at the National Park Service Orientation Center at 194 Derby Street or the National Park Service Visitor Center on New Liberty Street. Join Park Rangers and Volunteers throughout the park with fun, free, hands-on activities and learn more about the national parks that belong to you. Don't forget to see a Park Ranger to be sworn in as a Junior Ranger and receive your badge!

"Ocean Commotion"
Dive into the deep and discover amazing animals and other life that call the ocean home. Scientists from the Cat Cove Marine Laboratory of the Department of Biology at Salem State University, bring their traveling touch tank to the Visitor Center. Handle and observe a wide range of tidal pool life from local waters and leave inspired to care for the wildlife in your own backyard!
"Fish and Ships"
Nothing fishy going on here! Catch some fun by making your very own fish print. Design your own gorgeous paper boat that floats.
Saugus
"Cook, Cast, and Catch 17th Century Style"
Cook a meal from a 17th century cookbook in a cast-iron pot over a charcoal fire. Cast a pewter figurine of a 17th century cook or catch and study fish, eels or other river creatures at the dock. All the while earn your Junior Ranger Badge. Take home your figurine, recipes, and badge. Come prepared to get dirty and for the weather.
