Come early to make a Valentine for local firefighters, police officers, public works employees, staff members at Boston Children’s Hospital, and staff and volunteers for PAWS New England. We’ll spread some love to some of the people in our community who deserve it most!
Karen K & The Jitterbugs: (I Woke Up) In a Firetruck
Boston based Karen K (Kalafatas) is best known for her pop-rock songwriting style that is popular among preschoolers and has broad appeal with people of all ages, from tots to grown-ups to grandparents. A former musical theater actress performing in New York City, she delivers crowd-engaging shows with a captivating stage presence, energy, humor and poignancy. Her songs have won multiple awards, including a coveted Parents Choice Award and Best KidVid of 2015 for her smash hit “I Woke Up in a Fire Truck.” She has appeared on CBS-New York and PBS (WGBH) and her Jitterbugs Music Classes for children 5 and under were recently named Best Music Class in Massachusetts by Boston Parents Paper. She was most recently awarded a 2016 Top 5 Family Favorite music award by Boston Parents Paper as well. Karen’s band, Karen K & the Jitterbugs, were recently voted Best Kindie Band in Greater Boston by 41,000 Mommy Poppins Boston voters.
With a deep passion for social justice, Karen is also the founder and creator of Kids Really Rock, a free all-day family music festival held annually at the Lawn on D in Boston, that promotes kindness, creativity and community. The event attracts over 10,000 people annually. She was recently recognized for her work in under-served communities with a prestigious Berklee College of Music Urban Service Award.
